Massachusetts man charged with tax fraud pleads guilty

A well known infomercial host has pleaded guilty to counts of tax evasion and consumer fraud. Recently, the Massachusetts man was charged with tax evasion when authorities discovered he had failed to report earnings of close to $600,000. The undeclared money was allegedly earned from products he sold and advertised as being capable of preventing cancer and other ailments.

The defendant used infomercials to market multiple products in the health and nutrition niche. Among those was a product called Supreme Greens and another known as coral calcium. The infomercials claimed that these products would prevent both cancer and arthritis in users. However, the Food and Drug Administration had not approved the products.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to the charges that had been filed against him. The man's sentencing hearing is set to take place on July 27. It is believed that a reduced sentence of one year in jail instead of a possible three years is likely.

As this case shows, federal authorities take tax evasion very seriously. Like this Massachusetts man, you could be facing years in prison or other penalties for not properly reporting your income.

Dealing with tax collection agencies can be frightening and overwhelming. Tax law can be very complex, and it can be difficult to understand all of the details. It can also be easy to make a mistake when filing a return. Experienced Boston attorneys know that not everyone accused of a tax crime is guilty. Strong defenses can be built to challenge tax-related charges.
